Thomann Dev Camp 2k19

Domi, Scrum Master - Nov 4, 2019

Fettes Brot, Party People!

This year, the Dev Camp takes place in Hamburg and the motto is "ready for our collective take-off": bigger, more ambitious and longer than last year. Including awesome codes, fancy food and pickles for everyone! For 3 days we exchanged ideas, got to know each other, workshopped, prototyped, taught and played with Lego. But more about that later!

Day 1: Web Team - The companions

After the signal was given, the Web Team set off from all locations to meet in Hamburg. From Treppendorf via Aschaffenburg, Iserlohn and Berlin, a total of 20 of us made it to the hotel - without any colleagues lost on the way. The first impression: Quite a bit off the beaten track! Our relaxed, casual team meets marble columns and gin and tonic at the hotel bar for €15+. It’s a match!

After this aristocratic first impression, we went straight to our dedicated booked workspace. First, we had some snacks and then the best presentation ever (there were GIFs of cucumbers, you have to see them).

Though we're taking off collectively, our food stays based!

Under the watchful presence of the Cucumis sativus all projects were presented and afterwards teams were formed. This was the outcome:

  • Micha, Sebastian, Julia and Domi revolutionize the remote whiteboard, because our previous tool Scrumblr causes a headache at every Retro (specific meeting).
  • Daniel and Markus get into the Lamborghini together and take care of the service performance. From 0 to 100 in Planck time!
  • PROJECT ZERO! Fixing bugs, bugs and all about bugs! It takes tough Dev-OGs to do this. Three of the fiercest and badass developers take on this task: Fabian H, Francesco and Waqas!
  • Easter is epic! Everybody likes to look for easter eggs so why not do it all the time, the whole year? Heiko and Andi thought the same and will create Easter Eggs for thomann.io!
  • To curb the regular battle of the 3 armies (content, PR and dev) in the Marketing Office, Oleg, Aryo and Jöran get together to bring meeting room calendars to tablets.
  • Thomann is all about musical instruments. Strange, isn't it? And for guitarists, almost everything is about the right effects. Strange, isn't it? And it just so happens that the Thomann Web Team build the coolest store with the coolest features. Cool, isn't it? That's why Olli, Johannes, Julian and Andi are developing a pedalboard designer to make life easier for guitarists in the future. Cool, isn't it?
  • And then there's Ralph, of course, who thought it would be a good idea to build a Slackbot that gives warnings...

Sooo, then: Full throttle! There was conceptualizing, planning and even actual coding. And all that until 11pm! Especially our 90s techno remix helped to keep it up (and the 15 pizzas for dinner). Conclusion: Everyone was there, everyone was down for it, cucumbers at the ready, to be continued!

Edit: Part 2 never came. Back at the office we somehow strived for larger goals... and for DevCamps 2020 and 2021!
