Web Developer (f/m/d) PHP, JS, React for Tech & Data Team

That's the deal

We are the Tech & Data Team. A diverse mix of developers, system administrators, designers, product owners, agile coaches, data engineers and many more. Whether from our offices in Erlangen and Berlin or full remote: We work every day to provide an unique and inspiring e-commerce experience for our Thomann customers worldwide.

To make this even better, we are looking for a Web Developer (f/m/d). You will support one of our product teams, Team Scharf Team (yes, that's our real name :) ) and help us to improve customers access to our product range.

Want to learn more about the company? Checkout out at https://thomann.io/tech-infrastructure.

Who we are and how we work

  • We are: Juli (PO), Sunny (UI/UX-Designer), Daniel, Waqas, Micha and Markus (Developer) and we are looking for you.
  • We are working agile, having dailies, reviews and retros moderated by our coach Domi.
  • We build and maintain our e-commerce platform thomann.de
  • We validate our solutions by data-driven development (e.g. KPI's).

What you will be doing

  • You plan new features/enhancements together with your team and maintain existing ones.
  • You write well-structured and tested code that scales easily. (e.g. Services, Frontend Components, Controller, ...)
  • When styling your components, write BEM-styled CSS with CSS preprocessor {less}.
  • You test your code in back- and frontend with unit- integration- and manual testing.
  • You exchange technical feedback through code reviews.
  • You share your knowledge with others e.g. through Each1Teach1 sessions, open-space workshop, blog posts …

Extract from our everyday work:

  • You enhance the search feature to improve the user experience (e.g. making it possible to search on static pages like opening hours).
  • You extend the cookie content for a new cookie into our platform.
  • There is a new design for a seasonal campaign. You apply it to existing pages.
  • Bugs are part of the game, but you are not alone ;) You make a customer happy by fixing the reported bug on the product page alone or with the help of your colleagues.

What you offer

  • You have worked with PHP 7/8, React and vanilla JavaScript for at least the last 2 years.
  • You have hands-on experience developing responsive front-end components using HTML 5 and modern CSS.
  • You have experience with an MVC framework (e.g. Symfony, Laravel) and are used to applying design patterns and SOLID principles.
  • You think outside the box and contribute your ideas in an inspiring way.
  • Self-initiative and a sense of responsibility are important to you. You are constantly working on yourself. Progress is everything.

Our tech stack

  • Store back end: We have completed the migration to PHP 7.4 and are already looking forward to using PHP 8.
  • We have full responsibility for our own framework and follow established standards (e.g. PSR) during development.
  • As template engines, we use React on the client side and Twig on the server side. We use {less} as our CSS preprocessor. Transpiling is done via Webpack and Babel.
  • With Docker and Openshift we are heading for a container future and make the port of Hamburg look weak.
  • MySQL, Memcached & Solr provide our customers with reliable and fast data.
  • We have implemented continuous integration/continuous delivery pipes for most of our repositories.
  • We monitor the stability of our projects with Splunk and Sentry.

What we offer

  • Pleasant working atmosphere and a good structured onboarding
  • Fair salary and permanent employment
  • Flexible with working hours and location
  • Thomann discount for employees
  • Work equipment as requested, including Software and IDE
  • Personal development and good opportunities for advancement
  • Professional coaching and english course with a native speaker
